Cardiff East website aims to provide coverage of the news and events happening throughout the east of the capital city of Wales. So this is the place for the news, events and comment on what is happening in Llanrumney, Old St. Mellons & Pontprennau, Trowbridge and St. Mellons.

Cardiff East has a rich history that can been seen in buildings such as Llanrumney’s, Grade 1 listed, Llanrumney Hall birthplace of world famous buccaneer Sir Henry Morgan and reputed resting place of the last Welsh Prince of Wales. Then there is St. Mellons Church rebuilt in the Decorated Perpendicular style in 1360. Whilst Rumney boasts St. Augustine’s a place of worship for over 800 years. The old is blended with the newer estates of Trowbridge and new St. Mellons.

James Callaghan, Prime Minister between 1976 – 79,  had his constituency residence in Kennerleigh Road, Llanrumney when he was MP for Cardiff South and Penarth.

Cardiff East will undergo many changes in the months and years ahead. Llanrumney and Rumney High Schools will close and merge as one English medium school for east Cardiff that the council propose to build on the Rumney Recreation Ground in Llanrumney.

It is also proposed that the Llanrumney and Rumney electoral wards will merge creating a new electoral ward.

The Eastern Leisure Centre is set to undergo a massive refurbishment costing £6.8m within the next few years.

Cardiff East – will track these events and wants to tell the story of the people of east Cardiff in the days, months and years ahead.
